Local artist Kimi Werner captures the fauna of the sea. When she is not painting, Werner can be found in the midst of unpacking/packing for yet another great adventure halfway across the globe. Whether trouncing the competition at dive meets, making television appearances as an accomplished chef, fending off frenzied sharks or pulling into beautiful Tahitian barrels – Werner is always looking for her next masterpiece.
Chiu Tak Hak is a self-taught artist from China whose work has received recognition at art shows and galleries in Germany, Paris and Hong Kong. In 1972, he moved to Paris and was attracted to the city’s historic shops and cafes; places that are still and quite like a stage waiting for players to arrive. The moodiness and mystery of these buildings evoke a feeling of solitude, which Chiu sought to translate onto canvas.
His style combines realism and elements of impressionism and abstractionism. He builds around a realistic central image, and then adds collage and other elements to add depth.
Lora Gold is a Vancouver painter and educator. Her work has taken different directions over the course of her career. Whether in the form of her large abstract expressionist figurative paintings or her painterly still-life, Gold strives to interweave the ordinary with the extraordinary. Her personal journey is to understand truth and live her life completely from that place and believes her paintings will be a testimony of that journey and marking of a history.
