In her recent work artist Jeanne Wassenaar is exploring the decorative elements of various familiar traditions and cultures, as well as her own, past and present and translated them onto canvas. Her work is mostly about experiences and experiencing, and the process of creating an image; a free exchange where the unconscious can react to what her consciousness perceives so that the image emerges as it wants and needs to. Receiving formal education in both fine art and graphic design, Luanne D'Amico draws on knowledge of both to create paintings which combine realism with strong composition and design elements. She calls her style "decorative realism". Luanne began working exclusively with colored pencil early on in her career. She builds multiple layers of pencil, blending at times with a brush and burnishing the final layers until her works achieve an oil painting type finish.
