Growing up on the coast of Florida, Linda spent many childhood hours doodling exotic bugs and flowers in the bright blues, yellows and pinks of sunshine and water. Her world expanded at the age of six, when her great grandmother, Nana, introduced her to sewing. Rather than creating doll clothes, Linda began cutting out the colorful squares of fabric from Nana’s sewing box to glue onto drawings of fat cats, girls with pig tails, and boys with fishing poles. Victoria Gerken has traveled extensively throughout the world, from London to Delhi, Rome to Bali, studying art and culture. Living much of her life in Japan and Europe, Victoria has gained a strong appreciation of global art and craftsmanship. While in Japan, she completed her teaching certification in porcelain art, and then studied design in Lausanne, Switzerland. Victoria attributes her respect for the simplistic beauty of nature to Japanese influences, and enjoys reflecting such sensitivities in her work.
